The 5 Most Important Skills To Teach Your Kids Before They Hit Kindergarten by Kindergarten Teachers Erin Sadler

In this Episode of The Rooted Family Podcast...

  • I actually went out and asked other kindergarten teachers their opinion, too. Like if they can make a dream list of things parents would help their children with over the summer or earlier during the school year before and work with their children on before they entered kindergarten, this would help their child in the kindergarten classroom have success. (05:43)

  • If you've ever been in a kindergarten hall as recess, they're trying to get outside for recess, especially in the winter season. It's kind of like the apocalypse. (07:43)

  • And I will tell you that this also helps for the old backpack routine because if your kid's not used to picking up and putting things back, um, on your end when you get home, you will have a volcanic explosion of backpack because they wanted him put things away nicely. (12:23)

  • And the mystery box is amazing because whatever your kid needs to practice or chores that need to be done, that's the secret code to get whatever it is out of the mystery box and to see the mystery. (16:17)

  • It's a long year school. If you've been poked to death by small people - if your child does that - if your child hits you to get your attention or you poke them to get their attention, that's a habit that needs to be broken. (23:18)

  • And I think I've quoted this study before, but um, there are several studies actually out there that say that how socially and emotionally competent you are in kindergarten is a really great determiner for how successfully you're going to be in life. (32:26)

  • Oh my gosh. If your kid comes in doing that, your teacher is going to fall over. Her socks are going to fly off her feet, hit the walls and I don't know, she might even get you a Starbucks card or something for being parent in the year. Just saying. (39:41)
